In March 2019, the government of New Caledonia approved the framework for the country’s first water management policy. Called the “Shared Water Policy” (PEP1), it is the result of a broad consultation involving approximately one in six hundred New Caledonians. This chapter presents a retrospective of the consultation mechanism put in place for the deve- lopment of this policy. It focuses in particular on the process and the planning support tools used, partly inspired by the CoOPLAN mechanism.
